13.
What are the proper preparation steps before applying
Epoxy-Seal?
1.
What is Epoxy-Seal? Epoxy-Seal
is a blend of acrylic and epoxy resins specially formulated
for concrete/garage floors
2.
Is Epoxy-Seal a two-component system?
No.
Seal-Krete Epoxy-Seal is a one part system and is ready-to-use.
3.
What are the color choices for Epoxy-Seal?
Epoxy-Seal
comes in armor and slate gray. Color cards with additional
color options are
also available with the white and deep tint bases of
Epoxy-Seal.
4.
Will Epoxy-Seal yellow?
No.
Epoxy-Seal is UV stable.
5.
Where can Epoxy-Seal be applied?
Epoxy-Seal
can be used in interior and exterior high traffic areas
including garage floors,
driveways, shop floors, basements, pool decks, walkways,
patios, porches and more. Epoxy Seal an also be applied
on interior and exterior walls including concrete block,
stucco, brick and T-11 siding were a harder more durable
scrub resistant finish is desired.
6.
What type of roller should I use to apply Epoxy-Seal?
Based
on the type of surface you will be coating, we would
recommend one of the following rollers:
Smooth-troweled surfaces: 3/16” – ¼”
nap roller
Broom-finished surfaces: 3/8” nap roller
Rough or textured surfaces: ½” nap roller
7.
How can lap marks be avoided when applying Epoxy-Seal?
Unless
a “wet edge” is maintained during application,
working back into a semi-dry or dry area can double
the film thickness and result in lap marks. To avoid
lap marks, paint in small sections so there is less
time fore each section to dry completely before you
start in on the adjacent one. Avoiding applications
in direct sunlight will also minimize lap marks, since
heat speeds up the drying time.
8.
What should I do if I have lap marks in my recently
applied Epoxy-Seal?
If
lap marks have already occurred with the Epoxy Seal,
a second coat, spread evenly, and applied while maintaining
a wet edge is necessary to make the surface more uniform.
9.
I have just painted my patio with Epoxy-Seal and some
areas are shinier than others. What should I do to correct
this?
Flashing
is a term used to describe shiny spots that occur due
to improper or non-uniform sealing of a surface that
is porous or varies in porosity. The Epoxy-Seal will
tend to penetrate or soak in the porous areas more than
the dense areas causing apparent shiny spots on the
dense area. If the surface is extremely porous or if
adhesion is of concern, the surface should be primed
with one coat of Seal-Krete Original Waterproofing Sealer
prior to application. Otherwise, another finish coat
of paint spread uniformly will generally correct the
condition. Some unevenness can be expected on rougher
surfaces, additional coats of paint tend to achieve
better uniformity.
10.
I have painted my garage floor with Epoxy-Seal and some
areas have more gloss than others. What is the cause
and how can I correct it?
Uneven
brushing or rolling during application can result in
varying film thickness and uneven gloss. Thinner films
will generally be lower in sheen than thicker areas.
The Epoxy-Seal must be spread uniformly to avoid this.
11.
I thought my garage floor would have a satin finish
after applying the Epoxy-Seal. Most areas do not have
any sheen at all. Why is this?
High
moisture conditions such as high humidity, dew and rain
during drying can flatten satin to glossy finishes.
These conditions can also cause whitening of finishes.
If either of these conditions occur, application of
another finish coat under more favorable conditions
will be required.
12.
My garage floor was painted in sections with the Epoxy-Seal
and the paint varies in color. Why is this?
Colors
can vary in appearance if all paints are not intermixed
before application. By inter-mixing the paint, you can
avoid variations in the finished paint film.
